Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden (CSV-EPP) picked centre-right MEP Christophe Hansen as Commissioner over the EU socialists’ lead candidate for the EU Commission presidency, Nicolas Schmit.
The Greens’ co-presidents report having had a “constructive” meeting with Ursula von der Leyen about her candidacy for the European Commission presidency as they call for a strong pro-EU coalition, especially in light of November’s US elections.
Ursula von der Leyen started talks with the Greens on Monday (1 July), following negotiations with Socialists and Liberals, as she enters the third stage of her campaigning to get the Commission presidency for a second term: winning over Parliament.
